Games Are A Reflection of Practices

Over the years, I had the opportunity to coach my boys in a few sports until they got older and moved on to have others coach them. I have seen many youth sport and school games over the years and found a dividing line among coaches. Some had quiet confidence during a game, and those who maniacally controlled and commented on every move their team made.

In my opinion, games are just a reflection of practices. I always preferred to work the kids hard and get on them a little during practices with the hope of making them fundamentally sound for games.

Games would be a time to sit back, let them play, accept their mistakes, and use those mistakes to plan the next practice.

When you see coaches yelling and screaming directions during games, it is safe to say they aren’t running successful practices.
